Debbie at Daytona

DEDaytona 2.jpg (23150 bytes)Debbie Evans’ first road-race outing was Feb. 28th at Daytona International speedway for the Formula USA GTU Team Challenge. She teamed up with Dennis King and team owner Tony Morris on the 14K 600cc Suzuki sport bike.

The first rider out was Dennis King who was running lap times 8 seconds faster than the winning KSA team also on 600 Suzuki motorcycles. Debbie rode second and kept a steady quick pace decreasing her lap times every lap. Third rider and team owner Tony Morris was running great times when he high sided at nearly 100MPH injuring himself and totaling the motorcycle.

The team was running in the top 5 until the mishap, in which high winds may have been a contributing factor. The final result for the team was 12th place out of 18 teams.

The techniques Debbie has learned will come in handy for future stunt work. She is considering participating in more racing to prepare for future work in the upcoming dramatic road-racing movie “14 K.”

Debbie Top American at US Women's Invitational

Canadian riders Christy and Kerri Williams beat Debbie for the overall with Christy winning both days of the contest. Debbie managed to beat her sister Kerri, who is currently leading the USA championship, day 1 finishing second to Christy Williams. Kerri beat Debbie day 2 making it a tie for second place, however Kerri had a lower overall score for both days for the tie breaker, giving her second place in the podium.
