34th
Annual El Trial de España and Ryan Young Products
Youth National Trials Series
Saturday,
April 26, 2003
Our
own Daniel Leavitt competed in the opening round
of the Ryan Young Products Youth National Trials
Series. Daniel cleaned the course, losing no
penalty marks, winning the 9 year-old class.
Sunday was the 34th Annual El Trial de España,
which is the primary fund-raiser for the US Trials
team to compete at the World Championships in
Italy. Daniel competed in the adult novice division,
topping riders from all over the country. One
of the big highlights of the weekend for Daniel
was being offered sponsorship by XS Energy Drinks,
who came to the event to promote their new product.
XS is already the second most popular energy
drink in the country. It has zero carbs, zero
sugar, and only six calories. Its energy comes
from a natural blend of herbs that is ideal for
young athletes.

Womens Open Invitational Series
Stuntrev's
Debbie Evans proved again she is the United States top
women's trials rider. She handily beat the other American
competitors at the US Open. Canadian riders Christy and
Kerri Williams beat Debbie for the overall with Christy
winning both days of the contest. Debbie managed to beat
her sister Kerri, who is currently leading the USA championship,
day 1 finishing second to Christy Williams.
Kerri
beat Debbie day 2 making it a tie for second place, however
Kerri had a lower overall score for both days for the
tie breaker, giving her second place in the podium.
The
next contest between the girls will be at the World Championship

USA
Youth National Championships
The
stuntrev.com trials team had a huge impact on the USA
Youth championship and the Women's Invitational series.
Daniel Leavitt, after 3 days of riding was in a statistical
dead heat with Colorodo rider Marcus Young and Geoff
Aaron's sponsored rider Ryan Sandoval. All 3 riders and
Georgia's Bo Ibsen cleaned the last day's event, which
forced a ride-off between these fantastic young riders.
After
6 sections Bo and Marcus were eliminated, leaving Ryan
and Daniel to fight it out for the national championship.
Whichever rider dabbed first would lose the national
title to the other rider. After 11 sections of progressively
more difficult obstacles, Daniel finally dropped a point
giving California's Ryan Sandoval the national championship.

The
West Coast Vintage Nationals
Our
trials team, along with former Montessa and Suzuki
MX Star Mike Runyard were invited by Jim Palmeroy,
the first American to win an MX GP to do a parade
lap with other former Spanish manufacture factory
riders. The huge event included vintage roadracing,
falt-track, motorcross, and trials. Our own Debbie
Evans won the Single Shock class on her 2002 Sherco
and Lane won the Modern Classic Expert on a replica
of his 1976 Bultaco works bike. Mike, who competed
in the motor cross also rode his first trial on Debbie's
Yamaha trials bike. Daniel also competed on his Gas
Gas 50, in preparation for the upcoming Youth National
Trial Championship. |

Debbie
at Daytona
Debbie
Evans’ first road-race outing was Feb. 28th
at Daytona International speedway for the Formula
USA GTU Team Challenge. She teamed up with Dennis
King and team owner Tony Morris on the 14K 600cc
Suzuki sport bike.
The
first rider out was Dennis King who was running
lap times 8 seconds faster than the winning KSA
team also on 600 Suzuki motorcycles. Debbie rode
second and kept a steady quick pace decreasing
her lap times every lap. Third rider and team
owner Tony Morris was running great times when
he high sided at nearly 100MPH injuring himself
and totaling the motorcycle.
|
 |
The team
was running in the top 5 until the mishap, in which
high winds may have been a contributing factor.
The final result for the team was 12th place out
of 18 teams.
The techniques
Debbie has learned will come in handy for future
stunt work. She is considering participating in
more racing to prepare for future work in the upcoming
dramatic road-racing movie “14 K.”

Vice President Debbie Evans chosen for Team USA at the
Trial des Nations
Our Debbie Evans is picked
by the American Motorcycle Association as one of two
women riders to represent Team USA at the Trials
des Nations in Seva Spain the first week of September.
Pam Debruin was selected
as USA's other team member after Kerrie Brokaw crashed
and broke her wrist at one of the final National rounds
of the year. Pam and Debbie seem to work well together
as a team, creating high hopes for our team who
came 3rd last year in Italy.
A new format is being
tried this year. Instead of a 3 woman squad the
teams have been reduced to two. Team USA has great
depth of talent to draw from with lots of great women
riders. This put USA at an advantage with a larger
team, while the new smaller team seems to put the US
team at a slight disadvantage. We can only hope
that this won't be too large of an obstacle for our American
team.
